Abraham Perez becomes interim WBA flyweight champion!

After a very close split decision, Abraham Perez defeated Jonathan Gonzalez to become the interim WBA flyweight champion. The final result was very close, and both boxers felt they deserved the win. While Abraham Perez was clearly the more active fighter, Jonathan Gonzalez was certain he had landed the cleaner shots.

“I won the fight, I landed the better shots,he throws a lot of punches, but I thought I landed the better shots. I’m disappointed and surprised, but it’s part of the sport.”

he said after the fight, and seems visibly dissatisfied with the decision.

Abraham Perez remains undefeated, however, and is now in the running for the official WBA title. To win that title, he would have to fight WBA flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval.

Despite his victory over Jonathan Gonzalez, Abraham Perez is dissatisfied with his performance and is determined to show more in his next fights.

"I still don’t feel like that was my best. I need to stay sharp with my punches"

he said after yesterday's fight.

I think it’s great that Abraham Perez is self-critical despite what was actually a solid performance. Admitting mistakes is important, and that could really help his training. On the other hand, he shouldn’t be too hard on himself either; that would only hold him back. That’s why I’m so excited about the fight between him and Ricardo Sandoval —it’ll be a great opportunity to see exactly how Abraham Perez performs.
