Agit Kabayel crowned new WBC heavyweight world champion

The German heavyweight has officially been elevated from interim champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the WBC title.

According to his own statements, Agit Kabayel has been named the WBC heavyweight world champion. After Oleksandr Usyk decided to relinquish his titles, the governing bodies had to find a solution to crown a new titleholder. The WBC has now chosen Agit Kabayel, who is now the first German to hold this title since Max Schmeling in 1932.

He shared this news on Instagram. He wrote:

Unbelievable. As of today, I am the WBC Heavyweight World Champion….💪The first Kurdish heavyweight world champion in history and the first German heavyweight world champion in almost 100 years. Words can’t describe what I am feeling right now. Thank you to every single one of you for your support throughout this journey. This achievement belongs to all of us.I will do everything I can to hold this belt for a long time and add even more titles to my Collection ... 🙏💪

Agit Kabayel has more than earned this. He has held the WBC interim title since February 2025 and has since been actively trying to organize a fight against Oleksandr Usyk. Oleksandr Usyk, however, decided to step back, which is completely understandable. But things are about to change significantly in the heavyweight division. Agit Kabayel’s old friend and training partner Tyson Fury has already mentioned that he’d be willing to fight Agit Kabayel if he holds the WBC title. Other big names will surely be ready to step into the ring as well. So we’re most likely in for some interesting developments in the heavyweight division. It remains to be seen which fights will ultimately take place.

I'm really happy for Agit Kabayel. He's been incredibly patient since his interim victory in February 2025, even though he was determined to fight for this title. In the end, he won it without a fight, but he still more than earned it. I'm really excited to see what the next few weeks have in store for us, because I think the new titleholder will bring a lot of excitement our way.
