Barboza starts new chapter after MMA career

Edson Barboza decided earlier this year to leave the MMA scene, but he definitely wants to stay in combat sports.

Edson Barboza has signed with the Absolute Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, according to an announcement by the grappling promotion, which now opens a new door for him in a different discipline. This decision follows his fourth consecutive loss in the UFC, where he lost to Esteban Ribovics. This marked the end of a 17-year professional career in MMA. He has now signed with a grappling promotion that hosts many events. Financially, however, he says he’s set for life anyway, as he explained to MMA Junkie how he has managed his money.

“I made the right choices in this part of my life about investments. But I’m still 40. I’m still young and very excited about the future. I have a lot of things to do in the future. Thank God I did the right choices on the financial side”

he said.

It’s a decision that might not attract quite as much attention as, say, a change in the MMA promotion. But he’s surely given it some thought, and if he thinks this is the right path for him, then it’s the right decision. What do you think?

I think it’s good that fighters eventually reach a point in their careers where they might say they have enough money and want to focus on personal matters. I hope he enjoys his new venture.
