Benavidez finally moves on from Canelo
The cruiserweight champion admits their long-awaited fight may never happen.

David Benavidez has now admitted to himself that a fight with Saul Alvarez will likely never happen. He is finally focusing on bigger goals and is even considering a move to the heavyweight division. In an interview with Brian Custer, he explains:
"I think honestly I could say with confidence that that fight is never going to happen. I don’t want to keep disrespecting somebody … not even disrespecting, but just calling somebody out that doesn’t want to fight”
he said.
And even critics agree on this. Many say that Saul Alvarez should have faced David Benavidez when the two were still in the same weight class. It's too late now, the prime opportunity has long since passed. But it’s worth noting that David Benavidez seemed obsessed with Saul Alvarez for a long time. This is probably because they’re both Mexican, and as we all know, no one represents boxing in Mexico quite like Saul Alvarez. So, to make his mark in Mexican boxing history, David Benavidez needs to step it up a notch and start defeating some big names. It’ll be interesting to see who he has in mind for that.
I think it’s good that he’s finally shaken off that kind of obsession. For a long time, it felt as though he was intentionally holding himself back until he faced his dream opponent. What do you think?
