Canelo Alvarez loves Christian Mbilli’s aggressive style

The Mexican believes Mbilli’s pressure will suit his style

Saul Alvarez believes that Christian Mbilli’s aggressive fighting style is perfectly suited to his counter-punching. After Saul Alvarez lost to Terence Crawford and hasn’t scored a knockout victory in nearly five years, he has chosen an opponent here who willingly steps into the striking range that Saul Alvarez prefers anyway.

Christian Mbilli last fought in 2025 on the same card as Saul Alvarez. While Terence Crawford outboxed him convincingly, Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez engaged in a fierce exchange of blows over ten rounds that ultimately ended in a draw.

However, Saul Alvarez didn’t see much promise in that performance.

“There’s no way he can fight like that [against me] because I’m not Martinez. They took and threw punches like crazy, and they are strong, of course. But that’s not boxing. It’s just a different level. He’s going to find out. I love that style, him coming forward, and he’s strong”

he said.

But that last statement shows exactly why Saul Alvarez wanted to fight Christian Mbilli. Saul Alvarez has often struggled in the past against mobile boxers who frequently change their angles. Christian Mbilli doesn’t employ that kind of defensive strategy, as he usually attacks in a straight line and is willing to take hits in order to land his own.

So the fight could get very interesting, especially in the early rounds, as Saul Alvarez will likely try to exploit openings right away and make Christian Mbilli hesitate a bit in his offense. But the danger begins when Christian Mbilli refuses to be intimidated by this. What do you think?

I'm really excited about the fight. I'm really looking forward to seeing both of them fight aggressively, and I hope it turns out to be a great match. I think Saul Alvarez will win in the end, what about you?
