Chris Weidman reveals how Hokit can beat Gane

UFC Hall of Famer Chris Weidman has explained how Josh Hokit could defeat UFC heavyweight world champion Ciryl Gane at UFC 334.

With less than a year of UFC experience, Josh Hokit will fight Ciryl Gane for the title. The event will take place on November 14. Ciryl Gane is considered the favorite by most, but Chris explains that Josh Hokit actually has a realistic chance. On the “Deep Waters” podcast, he shared his opinion:

“If you watch Hokit, some of his fights before the Curtis Blaydes fight, I’ve seen him ragdoll people like Cain Velasquez did back in the day. Just non-stop punches from the back, just riding them, rag-dolling them around. He has the potential of rag-dolling Ciryl Gane, for sure, Cain Velasquez style”

he said.

But he goes even further and apparently really does see Josh Hokit as the favorite, and for a specific reason.

“We’ve seen Gane get taken down and get beat up by Francis Ngannou, Jon Jones with the guillotine. I think I’d go Hokit only because I think the style of Gane, the being light on your feet and stuff, I think that takes a lot of cardio. Like the ‘Wonderboy’ (Stephen Thompson)-type style. It’s very taxing on the body to be that light on your feet, and I think a guy like Hokit, who’s non-stop pressuring, eventually will start winning exchanges and getting the takedowns. I think he wears on Gane. No disrespect to Gane because I think the guy is unbelievable, but I think Hokit is just a tough matchup”

he said.

So it might turn out to be a very exciting matchup after all, assuming Josh Hokit takes advantage of his opportunities. We'll see just how close the matchup really ends up being. What do you think?

I also think it could definitely be an exciting matchup, but I still see Ciryl Gane as the favorite. He has significantly more experience, and I can't imagine him giving up his title so easily. What do you think?
