Conor Benn’s “Risk It All” claim raises questions
Benn says he is risking everything against Ryan Garcia, but his move to welterweight tells a different story.

Conor Benn claims he’ll risk everything in his fight against Ryan Garcia, but given the weight class, that statement remains a bit questionable.
If Conor Benn really wanted to take a sporting risk, he could have stayed in the middleweight division, where there are more than enough dangerous opponents.
On social media, he shared a 29-second training video in which he throws quick combinations. He looks very fired up and focused, but no one has ever really doubted that.
“Risk it all”
he wrote below that.
He’s cutting down to 147 pounds, that is, to welterweight, a division he hasn’t fought in since 2022, to challenge Ryan Garcia for the WBC world title.
Dropping that much weight after a few fights is definitely a physical challenge. However, from a commercial standpoint, this decision offers a huge opportunity.
From a sporting perspective, though, the bigger opportunity would have been in the middleweight division.
Conor Benn´s last few fights looked very good, and he had a good chance of competing against the bigger names in the division.
If he had truly been convinced he was taking a real risk, Conor Benn probably should have stayed in the middleweight division. He’s currently facing heavy criticism for this decision, presumably because he’s giving up a good opportunity for a more lucrative offer. However, this is nothing new in combat sports. It’s largely about money, which is, of course, understandable. However, perhaps one shouldn’t then pretend that the upcoming fight is such a huge athletic risk. If Conor Benn truly lived by the motto “risk it all,” the middleweight division would have been the place to prove it.
Personally, I don't hold it against Conor Benn for accepting the fight. It's a great opportunity, though it's mostly driven by commercial considerations. When you say “risk it all,” it naturally raises a lot of questions. I think he just didn't choose his post's caption very wisely.
