The former UFC champion says he entered the fight healthy after suffering a devastating knee injury against Max Holloway.

Conor McGregor breaks silence after UFC 329 injury

UFC superstar Conor McGregor lost via first-round TKO to Max Holloway. After a five-year absence due to a broken leg and other injuries, he was finally back in the Octagon. True to form, Conor McGregor talked a lot before the fight, and he actually looked very fit. He had no injuries or other issues until the fight began.

He visibly suffered a serious knee injury, and the fight had to be stopped early. For the fans, this was, of course, a disappointment from Conor McGregor. After the fight, he spoke once, and apparently he doesn’t quite understand what happened himself.

“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. I had no injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell”

he wrote on X.

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles this setback. His leg break against Dustin Poirier happened five years ago, and the fact that he got injured so badly right away in his comeback is really tough. Conor McGregor isn't fighting for money or success anymore; he's fighting for himself. The only question is whether he can bounce back after this loss. The next few days will surely bring more information; until then, we can only speculate.

I think it’s a real shame what happened in the Octagon. Sure, it was very disappointing, but when you get hit hard several times and end up injured, there’s unfortunately not much you can do. I hope he manages to have a few more fights somehow, because I felt like he didn’t get a chance to prove himself again at all.
