Dalton Smith dreams of a Shakur Stevenson fight
Dalton Smith dreams of fighting Shakur Stevenson in Las Vegas.

In an interview, Dalton Smith talked about a day that will probably never happen, but would be a dream come true. He wants to fight Shakur Stevenson for the title in Las Vegas and prove to everyone that he’s got what it takes. However, his vision depends on Shakur Stevenson agreeing to a fight for a standard purse, and that’s likely changed given his recent earnings.
“All respect to Shakur. I’ve known him from the amateurs, and we’ve said our back and forth. He's one hell of a fighter. But if we can get a fight made, of course I’m grabbing it with both hands, and I’ve got the big belief I’m going to beat him. That’s a fight for me that rolls back the Ricky Hatton-Mayweather days”
he told TalkSPORT.
Shakur Stevenson has, unfortunately, gone from being a boxer who sought out the best possible athletic challenge to becoming a prizefighter. Devin Haney or Gervonta Davis would fit that description, but Dalton Smith certainly does not.
When boxers reach this level, regular title defenses usually become uninteresting, unfortunately. Shakur Stevenson would have to bring most of the commercial value to the fight, while still earning less than he could against one of his preferred opponents. Dalton Smith, unfortunately, can’t generate the kind of excitement needed to make up for that difference.
However, Dalton Smith should perhaps focus on his next fight against Alberto Puello first, before he gets too carried away with his dreams. If he wins that one convincingly, things might look different, but Alberto Puello is a strong opponent he’ll have to beat first.
I think Dalton Smith should focus on his next fight for now. It'll be a tough one, but if he beats that guy, who knows what might happen.
