De La Hoya targets Garcia, Benn and Boots mega fights

Golden Boy is working on several blockbuster fights for the second half of the summer.

Oscar De La Hoya has big plans for his promotion, Golden Boy, in the future. In a video, he revealed his summer plans and which fights he still hopes to put together. Among them were mega fights like Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn, or Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Jaron Ennis.

First, however, he promoted the Golden Boy event on August 1 in his video, where William Zepeda will fight Lamont Roach Jr. for the WBC lightweight title. He also spoke openly about another fight he wants to put on there.

“Working on Vergil Ortiz versus Boots. Vergil Ortiz wants to fight. Let’s make that happen. It all depends on Boots,”

Oscar de la Hoya said.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. has emphasized in the past that he wants to face the biggest opponents in the super welterweight division. Jaron Ennis has only recently moved up to this division after successfully completing his run in the welterweight division. If De La Hoya were to take charge of the planning and organization, it would likely be the biggest fight in the division.

But there are also new updates on the fight between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn. Just a few weeks ago, De La Hoya had criticized the potential fight between the two, arguing that fans want to see Ryan Garcia face different opponents. Now, however, he has this to say about the fight:

“Working on Ryan Garcia versus Benn. I just got the memo today. So, that’s the fight that everybody wants to see. So, I’m gonna make it happen for you guys,”

he said.

Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but according to his own statements, Golden Boy is actively working to finalize the fight.

Building on that, De La Hoya is planning yet another fight. He wants to have Floyd Schofield face Lucas Bahdi to determine the WBA lightweight champion.

If all these plans come to fruition, Golden Boy will have a very interesting second half of the summer with several title fights featuring the company’s biggest names. It remains to be seen whether everything can be finalized this way.

Oscar de la Hoya has shared a very interesting schedule there. It includes many highly intriguing matchups that would attract a lot of attention. However, I can’t imagine that every one of his planned fights will actually come to fruition. If they do, though, we’re in for an exciting summer!
