Demetrius Andrade Targets Shock Comeback at 38 After Three-Year Absence

Former multi-division contender Demetrius Andrade is preparing for a comeback fight on July 24, aiming to silence doubts and chase a third world title across three weight classes.

Demetrius Andrade wants to make a comeback after three years, and he wants to do it right away against another big name. The 38-year-old will make his comeback on July 24, even though his opponent hasn’t been announced yet. This fight is especially important to him because he doesn’t want to be defined solely by his last fight against David Benavidez, which he lost.

“I'm still an elite fighter,and I’m going to prove that next. I’ve been elite my entire life. And yeah, I do have that one defeat to David Benavidez, but that doesn’t mean I’m not elite. I’m gonna show that I’m still one of the best fighters in the world in my next fight.”

Although he is already 38, he doesn't seem to want to retire anytime soon. According to his statements, he wants to make up for fights that should have taken place several years ago. But that wouldn't be enough for him.

“My goal is to be a three-divisional world champion. 154, 160, and then 168”

he said. That means he’d have to make a comeback at age 38 in a very tough division, facing names like WBC champion Christian Mbilli or former titleholder Caleb Plant. It remains to be seen whether things will really play out the way he envisions, but if he manages it, it would send a strong message to the entire boxing world.

Personally, I’m a little skeptical. Of course, I understand him, after so many successful years, no one wants to end their career with a loss, but I still question whether his planned goals are the right approach.
