Diego Lopes makes move to lightweight
Diego Lopes has confirmed his move to lightweight and could face a top contender in his new division.

A very interesting UFC fighter has announced that he’s switching weight classes. Diego Lopes will officially move up to lightweight.
Diego Lopes is coming off a very impressive KO victory over Steve Garcia at the UFC Freedom 250 event, where he once again proved his skills.
However, after two losses to the reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, Diego Lopes knows that his current position in the weight class is difficult. So instead of waiting to see how the division develops, he’s making the move to lightweight.
He says he’s already in talks with the UFC about his next opponent there.
“Yes, (the lightweight division) is the way to go. We’re already in pretty advanced talks for the next opponent and we hope that this week can define it. I want to fight this year. I want to fight in November, at Madison Square Garden. It’s a good date for me, as it’s the time I need to adjust my weight a bit more to 70 kg”
said Diego Lopes.
Although his next opponent hasn't been confirmed yet, he was able to confirm that it won't be Arman Tsarukyan, since he has already scheduled a bout with Mauricio Ruffy, and a fight this year would no longer be possible. However, Diego Lopes has previously expressed interest in Charles Oliveira. Charles Oliveira currently has no opponent, so this matchup wouldn’t be all that unlikely.
Regardless of who Diego Lopes ultimately faces, it will be an incredible fight. Diego Lopes has never been boring and is probably one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC.
So we can expect to see him back in the Octagon soon, the only question is when. It’s not unrealistic that he’ll face an opponent from the division’s top 10, if not the top 5, which would of course make the matchup incredibly interesting.
I hope Diego Lopes finds a good opponent soon. I’d find a matchup between him and Charles Oliveira really interesting, since both bring a certain style to the table that never gets boring. What do you think about this potential matchup?
