Diego Pacheco: Big fight or still being protected?

Eddie Hearn promises Diego Pacheco a “great fight” in Los Angeles, but will Matchroom really put him against a dangerous opponent?

Diego Pacheco: Big fight or still being protected?

Eddie Hearn confirmed in an interview that his protégé Diego Pacheco will return to the ring in mid-November, and said that the as-yet-unknown fighter is great. This promise may sound good at first, but Matchroom actually has every reason to defend its protégé. According to several articles, he is said to have signed a three-year contract, which would already be a big step.

“He’ll fight in the middle of November on TNT in a great fight in America. In Los Angeles. Yeah. So that’ll be November 13th. We’ll announce that soon”

Hearn said.

Hearn has claimed that his opponent will be great, but that raises some skepticism. Why would they expose a boxer under contract with him to unnecessary risk? That’s why the assumption is that Matchroom is still trying to build up Diego Pacheco so that, once he’s established a strong reputation, they can organize a huge fight that will bring in serious money. However, if you believe Hearn, and the opponent really does turn out to be great, then Lester Martinez could possibly be the one. It would be quite interesting from a sporting perspective and, above all, would justify Hearn’s claim. Still, that’s a bit unrealistic. What do you think, will Diego Pacheco really face a good opponent, or will Matchroom continue to protect him?
