Dustin Poirier open to fourth fight with Conor McGregor

Poirier says he would end his retirement to face McGregor again, this time at welterweight.

Dustin Poirier has hinted at an interesting return to the UFC.

After retiring following a loss to Max Holloway last year, he often spoke about how much he missed fighting. He also said he would come back for the right opponent, and that’s exactly where things are getting exciting now.

His former rival Conor McGregor has now returned and fought his first bout in five years. He lost to Max Holloway in the first round via TKO after suffering a severe knee injury. But Conor McGregor has no intention of letting that get him down and will continue to fight. Dustin Poirier is capitalizing on exactly that. He says himself that he’d be willing to come back just to fight Conor McGregor for the fourth time.

“Whenever he is healed up, hit me up, Conor, I'll come back and whip you again. I would come back to whip him again. At 170.”

he said on the UFC Podcast.

In their first matchup, Conor McGregor won the fight in the first round via TKO. In 2021, Dustin Poirier got his revenge with a knockout victory in the lightweight division. That same year, the two faced off again, but Conor McGregor broke his leg and had to stop the fight.

So it would be a heated showdown with a lot of history behind it. Conor McGregor definitely still has a score to settle, but he has that with quite a few people. Whether it will ultimately be Dustin Poirier remains to be seen.

Personally, I don't think Conor McGregor should necessarily fight old opponents. He's not in top form and has been away for five years. Why should he risk tarnishing his legacy a little right now by fighting old opponents he might not be able to keep up with? Of course, it would be absolutely incredible if he won those fights, but personally, I wouldn't take that risk.
