Ennis picks Rodriguez to trouble Inoue

The welterweight champion believes Bam Rodriguez has the tools to challenge Naoya Inoue.

Ennis picks Rodriguez to trouble Inoue

Jaron Ennis has shared his thoughts on a potential superfight between Jesse Rodriguez and Naoya Inoue.

In June, Jesse Rodriguez stopped Antonio Vargas via technical knockout in the sixth round, becoming world champion in his third weight class. The 26-year-old remains unbeaten with a perfect 24-0 record and is widely regarded as one of boxing’s top pound-for-pound talents.

Although Jesse Rodriguez could stay in the bantamweight division to secure more titles, fans are hoping he’ll move up to super bantamweight to face the undisputed champion there, Naoya Inoue.

The Japanese fighter has already won world championships in four weight classes and, alongside Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford, is one of only three male boxers to have achieved this since the “four-belt era.”

Now it was up to Jaron Ennis to assess the potential fight and share who he personally thinks has the edge.

“Bam, super nice, I ain’t going to lie. I think [he can beat Inoue], I think he’s smart enough, technically sound, good movement, and he’s southpaw, and I think that probably gives Inoue enough problems”

he told Ring Champs.

However, counting out Naoya Inoue would be a mistake. He holds a perfect 33-0 record, with 27 victories coming by knockout, and is considered one of the best fighters in the sport today.

Many fans are eager to see this fight, but Jesse Rodriguez’s trainer isn’t convinced yet. He warned that Jesse Rodriguez shouldn’t move up in weight class too soon and that he should first have one more fight at bantamweight. If this fight were to happen, it would be a huge event. For now, however, both fighters appear focused on their respective paths.

In my opinion, that would be an incredibly exciting fight. Jesse Rodriguez is definitely capable of giving Naoya Inoue a run for his money, but Inoue has proven time and again that he deserves to be at the top. What do you think, who would win this fight?
