Errol Spence Jr. retires after loss to Tim Tszyu

Errol Spence Jr. announced his retirement from boxing following his unanimous points loss to Tim Tszyu. However, the former world champion leaves the spotlight knowing that he ended his career on his own terms.

After a three-year hiatus, Errol Spence Jr. returned to the ring and immediately faced one of the toughest challenges of his career. He faced Australia’s biggest boxing star, and did so in Sydney, no less.

Tim Tszyu made life very difficult for Errol Spence Jr. throughout the fight. Tim Tszyu clearly dominated, especially in the later rounds, and kept Errol Spence Jr. under constant pressure. Ultimately, Tim Tszyu won by unanimous decision with scores of 118–110 and two 117–111 decisions.

Nevertheless, this was a worthy finale for Errol Spence Jr.. He fought his last bout nearly three years ago against Terence Crawford and lost that one decisively as well. That’s why this fight against such a strong opponent as Tim Tszyu, and his resilience in a foreign country, was a very fitting end to his career. Now he can at least end his career on a high note and turn his attention to other things. After the fight, he explained what his main reason for retiring was.

“I answered a lot of questions for myself and now it’s time to go home with my family and start a new life. I’ve got my faculties intact and my money is working for itself. I’m thankful to leave this sport with my family by my side.”

he said.

So he seems happy with the situation and is looking forward to being able to focus on his family for now. He thanked everyone for always supporting him and welcoming him, and also expressed respect for Tim Tszyu’s performance. Hopefully he feels the same way, that it was a worthy end to his career. In any case, he proved once again why he made it this far.

Sure, it’s maybe not always easy to end your career with a loss, but I think he can really be satisfied with this one. Errol Spence Jr. was a worthy opponent for Tim Tszyu for over 12 rounds and gave him a real challenge. That’s why I think he can be very proud of himself and what he’s achieved.
