Gareth A. Davies warns Fury against young fighters

Veteran journalist believes Fury should avoid young contenders and focus on major legacy fights like a potential clash with Anthony Joshua

Gareth A. Davies warns Fury against young fighters

While Tyson Fury is preparing for his upcoming fight against Mariusz Wach, many are claiming that Tyson Fury no longer has what it takes to compete with the younger generation. Among them is veteran journalist Gareth A. Davies, who is convinced that Tyson Fury should be preparing for the final chapter of his career and facing older fighters, rather than trying to compete with younger ones again.

“He’s coming up to probably his last couple of fights now in his career and being honest about the fact that he probably hasn’t got enough left to fight a Moses Itauma or some of the young guns coming through the division. Maybe that even includes Daniel Dubois”

Gareth A. Davies told IFL TV.

He seems firmly convinced that Tyson Fury should definitely avoid young opponents so as not to suffer a humiliating defeat at the end of his career. According to him, Tyson Fury should focus more on major events, but that’s exactly what Tyson Fury is planning right now. It’s expected that he’ll fight Anthony Joshua by the end of the year, which would be considered a huge boxing highlight. Tyson Fury is likely well aware that Oleksandr Usyk’s retirement has ushered in a new era in the heavyweight division. But if he’s still interested in fighting the younger guy, why not?

To be honest, I personally don’t quite understand Davies’ opinion. If Tyson Fury were to fight one of the new generation again, it wouldn’t hurt anyone, would it? Sure, he’s taking a certain risk, but I think we can leave that up to him.
