Gassiev targets heavyweight unification fights
After stopping Peter Kadiru, Murat Gassiev says he wants to fight heavyweight world champions and pursue unification bouts.

After Murat Gassiev’s fight last night, which he won against Peter Kadiru, he made it clear that from now on he wants to focus on the big names in the sport. He is convinced that every professional boxer’s ultimate goal is to become the undisputed world champion. Since the heavyweight scene has changed significantly following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to drop the titles, he sees another opportunity to challenge for the top spot. Murat Gassiev previously held two world championship belts in the cruiserweight division. But after his move to heavyweight, his motivation remains focused on the major titles.
“I held two world titles at cruiserweight and fought for the undisputed championship, unfortunately, it didn’t happen then. This is a new chapter, and I want to move toward unification fights.”
said Murat Gassiev.
Although he said he would take a short break after yesterday's fight, he added that in the future he would be ready to face anyone who holds a world championship belt.
"I’d fight any champion because they have the belts. Every boxer comes into the sport to become a world champion and reach the highest level, which is becoming the undisputed champion.”
he said.
If these unification bouts don't materialize in the future, he says he will look for other opponents who will draw a lot of attention. So his goal is very clear. The 31-year-old is determined to make another run at the top. First, however, he will take a short break before moving forward with his plans for the future.
In my opinion, Murat Gassiev is doing exactly the right thing right now. He’s just come off a strong victory, why shouldn’t he try to take on the world’s best? I hope he finds a suitable opponent and can make his dream come true.
