Glover Teixeira reveals concerning Raoni Barcelos update
Barcelos was reportedly found to have swelling in his brain.

Glover Teixeira has revealed further details about Raoni Barcelos’s injury.
Unfortunately, an unpleasant incident occurred at UFC Vegas 121. Raoni Barcelos faced Raul Rosas Jr. that evening in what was an exciting bout. Raoni Barcelos was leading on all the scorecards for a long time until, unfortunately, he suddenly lost consciousness and control of his body during a grappling exchange. The referee immediately stopped the fight, and Raoni Barcelos was quickly taken to a trauma center. Teixeira was in Raoni Barcelos’s corner during the fight and has now shared some rather concerning news with us.
“It was different because it wasn’t a knockout. If it had been a knockout, we’re used to that. A fighter takes a shot, gets knocked out, OK, let’s take him to the hospital, all right. But this was something that happened out of nowhere, and we started thinking about all kinds of things. Could it have been his heart? Could it have been something neurological? They went in and ran the tests”
Teixeira told the Overdogs Brasil podcast.
According to him, this test revealed swelling in his brain. He suspects this caused him to lose consciousness, as his body may have reacted to force the exhausted Raoni Barcelos to stop.
“There was some swelling in his brain, so it was a traumatic brain injury and maybe that swelling caused him to black out. It was the body’s defense mechanism. ‘Let’s shut this down because this guy isn’t going to stop.’ His mind was stronger than his body, right? He didn’t want to give up”
he added.
This is by no means good news. We can only hope that Raoni Barcelos finds a good way out of this and, hopefully, can still get the ending he deserves.
Last time, I mentioned that it would be a shame if he ended his career like this without a proper final fight, since his performance up to this point has been really good. I still hope that happens, and I’d find it very unfortunate if it didn’t. What do you think?
