Hearn: Fabio Wardley must accept Dubois rematch

Eddie Hearn believes Fabio Wardley could miss his last chance at another heavyweight title shot if he turns down the rematch.

Hearn: Fabio Wardley must accept Dubois rematch

Eddie Hearn believes that Fabio Wardley has little choice but to accept a rematch against Daniel Dubois, as he might otherwise never get another shot at the heavyweight title.

Fabio Wardley was knocked out in the eleventh round by Daniel Dubois on May 9 after taking a few hard punches. Although he was able to land some hard punches of his own, the pressure from Daniel Dubois was ultimately just too much.

Their contract includes a rematch clause, but this presents a problem. If Fabio Wardley invokes it, he would have very little time to recover and work on his technical weaknesses. Having to face Daniel Dubois again so soon would be a very tough task, as Daniel Dubois brings tremendous punching power and pressure to the ring. According to Hearn, however, Fabio Wardley must take this risk. Otherwise, he might never get another shot at the heavyweight title.

“What Fabio Wardley has achieved is incredible, and he deserves it all because he got in there and did it. To get a shot at the world heavyweight title is so difficult to do, these guys are all like planes, like big jumbos waiting to land, right? When you get your landing slot, you better be ready because if you don’t land, you’re going to be circling around with another 12 planes, waiting and waiting and waiting. If Fabio Wardley doesn’t take this rematch clause, he may never get another shot at a world heavyweight title”

Hearn told DAZN Boxing.

Not taking the rematch would give Fabio Wardley more time to recover and work on his weaknesses. However, according to Hearn, there’s no guarantee he’d be able to work his way back into such a position again. If he accepts the rematch, it means facing the man who stopped him again just a few months after his defeat. He’ll get another shot at the title, but does that really make sense without any real recovery time? What do you think?

I’d say Fabio Wardley should accept the fight. Sure, it’s tough and comes with a certain amount of risk, but risks can also pay off big time. I’d definitely find a rematch very interesting, but Fabio Wardley shouldn’t rush into anything or try to do too much too soon.
