Ian Machado Garry sends bold message to Makhachev
Ian Machado Garry is full of confidence ahead of UFC 330 and believes he has the tools needed to dethrone Islam Makhachev.
Ian Machado Garry seems to have gained a lot of confidence ahead of his upcoming title fight.
Next week, he’ll face welterweight champion Islam Makhachev in the main event of UFC 330. So far, Ian Machado Garry has already defeated strong opponents in the welterweight division, including Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates. In doing so, he proved that he can deliver a very strong performance even against the best. Now he believes he has the perfect plan for the fight against Islam Makhachev.
Ian Machado Garry wants to dominate the fight for three rounds and then finish it in the fourth. That statement alone exudes confidence. However, the Irishman took it a step further. In a phone call with Eddie Hearn, he showed him a picture frame in his house where the UFC welterweight belt will be displayed in the future.
“As much as I respect Islam, as much as I know how good he is and I know how talented he is, I know that I can beat him if I go out there and do what I believe I can do”
he said.
Ian Machado Garry certainly seems very confident in himself, but his opponent doesn’t seem to share that confidence. Islam Makhachev and his team doubt that Ian Machado Garry can pose any serious challenges to him. Islam Makhachev himself says that it will be difficult to take him down, but if that happens, he’s confident he’ll force his opponent to tap out quickly. Ian Machado Garry, however, is also working on his weaknesses. Over the past few months, he’s spent a lot of time improving his wrestling and grappling to be optimally prepared for Islam Makhachev.
If he manages to put everything he’s trained into practice, he might actually have a chance to dethrone Islam Makhachev.
