Itauma wants to avoid Mike Tyson’s mistakes
Moses Itauma is determined to handle fame differently than Mike Tyson

Moses Itauma has announced that he will emulate Mike Tyson in the ring tonight, and do exactly the opposite outside the ring. Moses Itauma would become the second-youngest fighter to win a heavyweight world title if he defeats Filip Hrgović tonight. This would put him just shy of the record held by Mike Tyson, who already held a title at age 20. Mike Tyson subsequently had serious problems with fame and wealth, which didn’t really do him any good. He spent three years in prison and spent all his money rather quickly. Moses Itauma could follow a similar path in the ring, but he wants to learn from the mistakes of his predecessor.
"I've always said I wanted to start off like Mike Tyson started off, but not to end up how Mike Tyson ended up. Now I'm in the shoes Mike Tyson was in, in terms of all the fame and accolades and whatnot at such a young age, and I'm starting to see and realize why he fell off the way he did"
he said.
He also emphasizes that he has no intention of making the same mistake. He wants to take things slowly and build them up. Moses Itauma has been fighting for 10 years and has never been in a position where his face was all over the media. He says dealing with that requires a certain amount of mental strength, and he has it. Whether he can keep it up if he fights Filip Hrgović remains to be seen, because things will certainly intensify again then. What do you think? Will Moses Itauma handle success better?
