Jaron Ennis vs Josh Kelly: Talks Are Underway

Ennis and Kelly could fight for three titles before 2026 ends.

Jaron Ennis could soon face another dream opponent, and not just any dream matchup. The fight would be for the junior welterweight title unification. The name is Josh Kelly. According to Chris Mannix, negotiations are already quite advanced, and the fight could take place before the end of 2026.

This announcement is sure to stir things up in the division once again. Jaron Ennis truly established himself in the division with his fight against Xander Zayas, winning the WBA and WBO titles. Josh Kelly had initially called for a fight following his last victory over Caoimhín Agyarko, but that initial callout has now led to something more.

Chris Mannix said that Jaron Ennis is eager to fight again, as he’s determined to win a third title.

“Boots is chomping at the bit to get back in the ring, and I’m told there are advanced negotiations for Jaron Ennis to face Josh Kelly in a unification fight sometime in November or December. Now, Boots Ennis, of course, coming off that spectacular performance against Zayas to become a unified champion at 154 lb. Knocked out Zayas to win two belts in this new weight class. Now, he is looking to add a third”

he said.

Josh Kelly is also coming off a tough fight. His bout against Caoimhín Agyarko was fiercely contested, and Josh Kelly took a lot of punishment as well. Afterward, he apparently had some issues with his nose, but Mannix says it will have healed by the time the two of them actually face off.

For both fighters, this bout would make perfect sense as a way to truly establish themselves at the top. Jaron Ennis has often spoken about wanting to dominate and shake up the division. If he were to face Josh Kelly, three titles would be on the line, which would definitely make for a very exciting matchup. But it would also be a huge opportunity for Josh Kelly. He’s built up a solid winning streak and could cap off his risky title run with an incredible showdown against Jaron Ennis. If the two of them step into the ring against each other, it would be an unbelievable matchup that would certainly draw a lot of attention. It remains to be seen when an official date will be announced.

I’m really looking forward to this matchup. At first, I wasn’t convinced that a fight could actually happen. Now, negotiations for the matchup are already at an advanced stage, which makes me very happy. I’m really excited about this matchup, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
