Joe Rogan questions Gable Steveson’s training setup
Rogan wonders if training with Jon Jones creates a unique challenge.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has shared his thoughts on Gable Steveson training with UFC legend Jon Jones.
Things haven’t gone so well with Jon Jones by his side so far, as he was knocked out after just 12 seconds in his last fight. You could argue that this was one of the biggest UFC upsets ever.
After Gable Steveson suffered his first loss, Joe Rogan questioned whether the heavyweight might be better off training with someone else. On his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” he said:
“That’s the problem: You’re hanging out with a guy who’s the GOAT, and you start thinking you’re the next guy. You might be. You could be – if you do the right things. But if you believe it before it happens … you have to be cautious, but also confident. There’s this dance of the mind. There’s so much going on to be an elite fighter”
It's a pretty interesting aspect of the story that hasn't really been explored yet. It could very well be that Gable Steveson was already a little too far along in his career in his mind than he actually is in reality. What matters now is what happens next and how he bounces back. He definitely has the talent to be very successful, but if he doesn’t learn how to defend himself properly, that could always be a problem. Maybe he should even switch training partners for that reason. What do you think?
I think a new training partner might actually be really good, and maybe one who doesn't have as strong a UFC reputation as Jon Jones. Maybe that will actually rub off on the fighter in some way, who knows?
