Jon Jones responds to Islam Makhachev’s GOAT rise

Jon Jones has a clear opinion on who the best UFC fighter of all time is, and spoiler alert, it’s not Islam Makhachev.

After defeating his opponent Ian Machado Garry last weekend, Islam Makhachev broke a new UFC record - namely, the one for the longest winning streak. Following the victory, fans once again asked: Who is the GOAT? Unsurprisingly, Jon Jones responded, as he has always been a part of such discussions in the past. Jon Jones apparently takes issue with anyone who would rank Islam Makhachev above him. On social media, he wrote:

“Hopped on social media and heard there was a new goat?” I’m so confused make it make sense”

There’s a graphic that summarizes all UFC title wins. Jon Jones is ranked No. 1 on it. The problem is that the question of who’s the best fighter is usually subjective, and several factors come into play. Sure, Jon Jones has impressive stats when it comes to title defenses, but is that necessarily better than the longest winning streak in UFC history? It’s just that people often argue about how meaningful these kinds of comparisons are when it comes to him. No one doubts his abilities or anything else, fans just want to stir up the GOAT debate again. Who do you think it is, and why?

I don't really care who ends up being labeled the GOAT. I just wonder if Jon Jones really has to comment on it all the time. I think he's more likely to ruin his reputation than uphold it. What do you think?
