Jon Jones would fight Usyk under one condition

The UFC legend has ruled out a boxing match and says he would only face Oleksandr Usyk inside an MMA cage.

After Oleksandr Usyk announced that he would fight one more time before officially retiring, several names were mentioned as potential opponents for that fight.

Among them was Jon Jones.He has now commented on the matter, saying that he would accept a fight, but not in boxing. Apparently, he wants to face Oleksandr Usyk in MMA, which would, of course, be a huge disadvantage for Oleksandr Usyk.

Jon Jones is considered one of the best MMA fighters of all time, though he has been largely inactive in the UFC recently. He fought his last fight in 2024.

That’s why many assumed he might be considering a move to the boxing ring for a spectacular crossover fight.

But that’s exactly what he has now ruled out. He said he would only face Oleksandr Usyk if Oleksandr Usyk is willing to step into an MMA cage.

"I also am aware that he does wrestling, and wrestling has been a heavy part of his training for many years, probably why he is so dominant in the clinch. If he would like to test his total combat skills, I would oblige him in that"

Jon Jones told Ring Magazine.

So he thinks Oleksandr Usyk would theoretically be suited to fight in MMA instead of boxing. On the other hand, however, he said during the interview that he would find it unfair if he had to limit himself and was only allowed to use his hands.

So the only option for the two of them to fight each other is MMA.

Personally, I don’t think Oleksandr Usyk will, or should, fight his next bout in MMA under any circumstances. I think he should stay in boxing, and I believe he feels the same way. Personally, I wouldn’t think much of this fight in MMA either. What do you guys think about it?
