Joshua vs Fury upgraded with WBA ‘super’ title

WBA ‘super’ title reportedly added to December 11 clash

Joshua vs Fury upgraded with WBA ‘super’ title

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are now officially set to face off on December 11, and the bout has even been upgraded.

According to Ring Magazine, the WBA “super” heavyweight title will be on the line when the two meet.

Although Murat Gassiev had been promoted to WBA regular world champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated his titles, the Russian now appears to be demoted back to regular titleholder. This is a rather odd move by the WBA, since they had actually announced plans to phase out their regular titles. The WBA lists regular world champions as secondary titleholders, while super world champions are considered the true champions. For Murat Gassiev, this would naturally be a tough decision—but just as much so for Jarrell Miller. He’s ranked number one in the WBA rankings and is essentially just waiting for the title fight. However, if the rumors are true, that fight will now be delayed for some time.

However, there’s also the possibility that the WBA won’t be the only organization to get involved. There are rumors that the WBC was also interested in putting its interim title on the line so that the winner could eventually face Agit Kabayel. Who knows how many others will ultimately get involved, since everyone naturally wants a piece of the huge purse. What do you think, will it end up being too much of a spectacle?

I hope not everyone tries to be part of the event now, because at some point it'll just become too much. I hope they find a happy medium.
