Luka Plantic gets his long-awaited world title chance

Luka Plantic has been waiting for his chance to prove himself on the world stage since his professional debut in 2018. This weekend, he’ll get that chance when he faces Lester Martinez on Saturday night for the interim WBC super middleweight title. In the meantime, Luka Plantic has been fighting in smaller venues and steadily climbing the WBC rankings. If he wins this Saturday, the Croatian could qualify directly for a super middleweight title fight.

“I feel very good and I'm very well prepared for this fight. My head, my body, my everything, it's very strong and we do it tomorrow night, we change everything”

he told BoxingScene.

Furthermore, he won’t be the only Croatian vying for a title this weekend. Filip Hrgović, who lived just a few kilometers away from Luka Plantic during his youth, will face Moses Itauma for the IBF heavyweight title. Luka Plantic is convinced that both of them will bring a belt home with them.

“I think [we will both win], two belts are coming home to Croatia”

he said.

If Luka Plantic really wins the fight, he’ll secure a shot at the regular title. That title will be contested on October 31 between Christian Mbilli and Saul Alvarez. That would be a huge opportunity for him, one he certainly deserves. Still, he’ll first have to get past Lester Martinez, which in itself won’t be easy.

Personally, I believe he can win the fight, but it will be very difficult for him. Still, he has strong ambitions that will surely help him thrive. I’m very curious to see what his future holds.
