Makhachev reveals his career is nearing its end

UFC champion addresses criticism and wants to face the best available opponent

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev has already stated that his next fight will definitely be one of his last.

As is well known, Islam Makhachev turned down a fight in January against Carlos Prates. Carlos Prates will instead face Michael Morales in a bout for the interim title. So this is a chance for both of them to qualify for a title fight. Islam Makhachev has now shared his thoughts on X, as he was heavily criticized following his decision.

“My next fight is one of the last in my career. They say [Carlos] Prates is too dangerous for me and [Michael] Morales is too good for me. So I want to face the best of them and prove to the world once again who is the best in world”

This is a pretty strong statement coming from him. To be honest, it’s understandable that he isn’t necessarily in a hurry to make his return, since he’s already achieved just about everything in his career. That’s why he can take his time choosing his next opponent, it doesn’t really matter whether it ends up being Carlos Prates or Michael Morales, since both fights are bound to be very exciting either way. What do you guys think?
