Matt Brown warns Ilia Topuria against Gaethje rematch

A former UFC fan favorite has shared his thoughts on a possible rematch between Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria.

Commentator Jon Anik caused quite a stir when he revealed that the UFC is reportedly considering organizing a rematch between the two. Justin Gaethje handed Ilia Topuria the first loss of his career. He also sustained some injuries in that fight, which is why he had to take a break. On top of that, Ilia Topuria lost his UFC lightweight title, which of course stings.

After the fight, some believe that a rematch between the two wouldn’t be a good idea, as Ilia Topuria could be putting his entire career on the line. Former UFC fighter Matt Brown also thinks the rematch is a bad idea and is even warning Ilia Topuria against it.

“I get where the UFC is coming from. I get where the UFC would want to make that fight. The downside of that fight, you might ruin Ilia Topuria’s life. If that first fight repeats itself, I’m not sure Ilia comes back the same. I’m not sure he comes back from the first one already. If you actually care about Ilia’s life, you need to put him in there with someone like a [Renato] Moicano“

He said.

Ilia Topuria hasn't commented on this yet, but he'll likely be against it if he cares about his career. The risk would be too high, even if he might still be considered the favorite by most people. But if it doesn't work out, he'd have a huge problem, and it probably just isn't worth it. What do you think? Should the two of them have a rematch?
