Mayweather's Garcia fight faces major financial hurdle
Huge purse demands could prevent the exhibition from becoming reality.

Floyd Mayweather is currently talking in interviews as if the fight against Ryan Garcia were already a done deal. But the fight is apparently further off than he thinks, since there’s a major financial hurdle standing in the way. Both fighters would certainly demand huge sums, which raises the question of who’s willing to pay that.
Floyd Mayweather announced a bout against Matty Floyd for an exhibition fight on December 19. However, an issue arose on social media regarding the description of the fight as a “tune-up” for Ryan Garcia. Floyd Mayweather is speaking as if the fight were already a done deal, even though nothing has been organized yet. But calling such a fight “tune-up” implies that the actual fight would actually have to take place. For that to happen, a promoter or streaming platform would first have to step forward and pay the immense sums involved. The only question is whether the fight would sell well, since such matches always get clicks on social media but few viewers are willing to pay to watch live. Will this fight actually take place?
