Moses Itauma set for January comeback
Ben Davidson will remain in Itauma’s corner for his return.

Moses Itauma is expected to return to the ring in January. Ben Davidson will likely continue to serve as his trainer, even though there was a fair amount of criticism following the loss to Filip Hrgović.
On August 29, Moses Itauma lost to Filip Hrgović via stoppage in the ninth round. Moses Itauma actually had the fight under control, but at some point, a significant drop in stamina became apparent, after which he took a lot of punishment. This led to a great deal of criticism, and his trainer, Ben, also came under heavy fire. However, Frank Warren has now confirmed that Ben will remain by Moses Itauma’s side for the time being.
“There has been a conversation, and the proof will be in the pudding. He’s staying with Ben and the team. That’s where he is at. You’ve got to judge him now on his results, which is what we’ll do”
he told Playbook Boxing.
Frank Warren also defended the trainer by saying:
“It is always the case: if a fighter is winning, the trainer is great. If he gets beat, [he’s not]. I signed off on that fight. At the end of the day, if any of them fight, that’s down to me. I accept my responsibility for that, and everyone has to accept responsibility for it”
But if the date and the trainer have already been set, who will his opponent even be? That’s still unclear at this point; the only thing that’s certain is that it won’t be an immediate rematch with Filip Hrgović. Warren would rather take a slow, gradual approach to rebuilding his career than rush into a comeback. It’ll be interesting to see who ultimately faces Moses Itauma. However, it’s expected that it will initially be a boxer who normally fights at a lower level. What do you think?
In my opinion, this is exactly the right decision, to take a comeback fight, especially at such a young age. Suppose he loses again at this level; then his confidence will be completely gone, and who knows what will happen then. I think this is the right path for him to take.
