The Australian stops Renato Moicano in the third round after a controversial referee intervention.

Nolan scores biggest career win amid controversy

Tom Nolan secured the biggest and most important victory of his MMA career so far after defeating the experienced Renato Moicano last night. It’s a significant win for him, though it didn’t go entirely smoothly and was marred by a few controversies.

Renato Moicano dominated much of the first two rounds, scoring several takedowns and making life quite difficult for Tom Nolan. Tom Nolan could barely respond and struggled to escape his attacks. Toward the end of the second round, the Brazilian was back on Tom Nolan’s back and landed a flurry of strikes. Just before he went for the choke, the crowd began to boo. The experienced referee Dan Miragliotta suddenly intervened and got both fighters back on their feet. In doing so, he took away a fairly dominant position Renato Moicano had established. Tom Nolan then landed a hard knee to his opponent’s face, but the Brazilian survived the round.

The third round, however, would play out somewhat differently, and it seemed as though Renato Moicano hadn’t fully recovered yet. Tom Nolan naturally took advantage of this, landing a flurry of strikes and taking his opponent to the ground. He ultimately ended the fight at 1:28 of the third round.

After the fight, there was a lot of criticism, and people started asking why the referee intervened. So far, there hasn't been any statement on the matter, but one will surely follow since it was quite a strange scene. What do you think?
