Paulo Costa explains why he chose Eddie Hearn

UFC light heavyweight contender Paulo Costa has explained why he decided to sign with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom talent agency. Paulo Costa recently parted ways with his former trainer and switched to Hearn, a rival of UFC President Dana White. In addition to many boxing stars, Hearn also represents UFC stars, including Tom Aspinall and Ian Machado Garry.

In an interview with “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Paulo Costa explained why he chose Hearn to guide him throughout his career.

“I have too much respect for what he’s doing. He’s a great guy, a great professional. I think we’re going to do great things together. I just need to send back the email. I think everything is set up, and I’m so excited. He handles the business very well. He’s a super important person in the fight business. Not only in MMA, but not only in boxing, but he’s coming to MMA right now. I think this is a great acquisition for the MMA community”

he said.

He also addressed the feud between Eddie Hearn and Dana White. Since White is his UFC boss and Hearn is now his manager, one might be concerned that a conflict could arise here; however, Paulo Costa isn't worried about it at all and doesn't think it could have any impact on his UFC career.

“I don’t think so because I don’t put too much attention on this beef between them both. If they have this bad blood between them, it’s not about me, you know? We’re professionals, guys. I’m just seeing Ryan Garcia fight this guy (Benn), and I think he’s still represented by Oscar (De La Hoya), right? And Oscar had that beef against Dana. I think they are very professional, much more than we thought. They can do business together and at the same time talk (expletive) about each other”

he said.

So it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him. Right now, he’s hoping for a shot at the title and a new, lucrative contract with the UFC. Hopefully, there won’t be any complications here.

Personally, I can understand his decision. Why shouldn’t he go to Eddie? I also think that professionalism is often underestimated. Of course, things can also go in the wrong direction, as we’ve seen lately between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury...
