Pereira vs Hokit: a fight worth making

A bout between Josh Hokit and Alex Pereira could be the next big fight, at least according to Alex Pereira’s coach.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira made his heavyweight debut at the UFC Freedom 250 event against Ciryl Gane, who defeated him via TKO in the second round.

Although Alex Pereira subsequently leveled strong criticism at the referee and even hinted at retirement, he now appears to want to fight in the heavyweight division again. A possible opponent here would be Josh Hokit. He, too, recently fought at the UFC 250 event and defeated Derrick Lewis.

In an interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, Alex Pereira’s coach, Glover Teixeira, was asked what his protégé’s plan is. He replied:

“I know for sure he’s going to get that belt, so he’s going to stay at heavyweight. Hokit is talking a lot of s—, let’s go over there and knock his a– out and get back to the top. And then get the rematch”

Josh Hokit has already responded to the suggestion on X.

“Either give me Ciryl for the title or Alex for the BMF”

he posted.

He also wants to prove to the fans what it means to hold a BMF belt. Josh Hokit says that Alex Pereira doesn’t deserve this role at all, which is good news for those who want to see a fight between the two. So it doesn’t seem unrealistic that the two will face off. It would be a major and very interesting matchup. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the Octagon.

It would be a very interesting fight that I'd love to see. Josh Hokit really seems hungry for more, and that could be very interesting against Alex Pereira. I'm curious to see if the UFC will actually go along with this, or who the two of them will face next.
