Raoni Barcelos remains hospitalized after UFC Vegas 121 medical emergency

Raoni Barcelos will remain on medical leave for the time being following his medical emergency at the UFC Vegas 121 event.

The 39-year-old lost consciousness during a grappling exchange in the fifth round of his main event against Raul Rosas Jr. and was subsequently carried out of the Octagon on a stretcher.

It remains unclear exactly what led to the incident. However, following a CT scan and further examinations, the UFC initially reported that he was in stable condition. Ariel Helwani has now provided another update on his condition.

“He’s able to talk. He’s very conscious and lucid, I’m told. He’s able to walk and eat, as well. Still unclear what happened. And still unclear how long he’ll be in the hospital for”

His trainer had also stated earlier that he was basically doing well and that fans shouldn’t worry.

Before the fight was stopped, Raoni Barcelos was leading on all three scorecards. However, Raul Rosas Jr. was still declared the winner because he won the fight by TKO. For now, that’s good news regarding his well-being. We can only hope that he’ll feel even better soon. But the question of his future remains. What do you think?

I hope he comes back safe and sound and that he’ll fight at least one more bout. It would be understandable, but a shame, if a career were to end this way. I wish him nothing but the best.
