Raul Rosas Jr. shows respect after scary UFC finish

Raul Rosas Jr. celebrated his sixth consecutive victory last night with a rather late comeback. But shortly after the fight ended, the focus shifted from the winner to his opponent. The opponent apparently lost consciousness in the fifth round following a takedown and had to be carried out of the cage on a stretcher.

Raoni Barcelos was quickly taken to an examination room, where he underwent a scan and was subsequently monitored. Thanks to a statement from the UFC, however, we can be sure that he is doing well so far. They said:

"stable, alert and responsive, with full movement"

Raoni Barcelos’s trainer also posted an update on social media, stating that his fighter is doing well.

Raul Rosas Jr., who was trailing on all three scorecards heading into the final round, started the final round extremely aggressively. During a clinch against the cage, he took Raoni Barcelos down with a slam. It looked as though Raoni Barcelos was either hitting the floor or the cage. Referee Herb Dean quickly recognized the situation and stopped the fight at 1:38 of the fifth round.

Raul Rosas Jr. expressed a lot of respect after the fight and wished his opponent all the best.

"I want everybody tonight to please pray for Raoni Barcelos. Man, he's a warrior. It takes two to tango"

he said, visibly shaken.

Raul Rosas Jr. signed his UFC contract in 2022 at the age of 17, making him the youngest fighter ever signed by the UFC. Facing Raoni Barcelos, he was up against the biggest challenge of his career, as Barcelos, at 39, had significantly more experience. It was a good matchup with an unfortunate ending. What do you think?

I think it’s great that, even at such a young age, he can distinguish between sports and personal matters. He knows he should show respect afterward, and he does. I think that deserves a lot of respect.
