Ryan Garcia accuses Conor Benn of making excuses

Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn are, as we know, set to face off this Saturday in Las Vegas. Both are fighters who like to talk a lot before a bout, but how will that play out here? For Conor Benn, this will be his first fight at this level, as the WBC welterweight world title is on the line.

However, the biggest wins of his career so far have come in his last two bouts. First, he defeated Chris Eubank Jr., who, at the time of that fight, seemed to be in pretty poor shape, and then, in April, he beat former champion Regis Prograis. Now, for the first time since 2022, he has to make the 147-pound weight limit, which many expect will be quite a challenge for him. That, however, gives him plenty of wiggle room to find an excuse should he lose the fight, at least according to Ryan Garcia. Speaking with Fight Hub TV, he said:

“Oh, one million percent [he’s making excuses]. He already set it up. You already heard him say this is my last fight at 147. Who wants to become a champion then leave the division? Bro is making excuses. He’s not going to become a champion but I’m saying who would do that. It makes no sense unless you’re setting an excuse. He could have kept those comments to himself. He didn’t have to say that”

It will be interesting to see how Conor Benn handles his weight. At least there’s one thing that doesn’t hold him back: on fight day, he can gain as much weight as works best for him. The only thing that’s clear is that weight will play a major role, whether in the ring or outside of it.
