Ryan Garcia criticizes Oscar De La Hoya after fight absence

Ryan Garcia has now harshly criticized his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, for his absence from his most recent fight.

Ryan Garcia defended his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn last Saturday and stopped him in the second round. For whatever reason, De La Hoya was not present at the event, even though he personally holds the titleholder under contract. Initially, there were speculations that De La Hoya had been uninvited by Dana White due to a dispute between the two, but Dana immediately denied these allegations. De La Hoya is said to have even been granted access to the VIP area, yet he still did not attend. His protégé Ryan Garcia has spoken out clearly on the matter.

“That would’ve shown his love for me just like I had imagined someone who has been with me the entire time to do. They did have a seat for you though, and you didn’t take that seat. I don’t respect that and that disappointed me”

he told the Ariel Helwani Show.

He also revealed that he hadn't heard from him since the fight and that he doesn't know where he is. He also seems pretty disappointed. But as mentioned earlier, this might open the door for Dana White to secure a good contract so they can bring Ryan Garcia on board. For Zuffa, that would be a huge success. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next, and whether De La Hoya shows up again.

I think De La Hoya will comment on this again, but I still believe Ryan Garcia will leave him when his contract expires. Maybe there was a perfectly understandable reason for his absence, that’s certainly possible. Unfortunately, we don’t know enough yet to really judge.
