Ryan Garcia must take bigger risks to become boxing’s best

Ryan Garcia has long dreamed of becoming a boxing legend. However, when he talks about it, he usually sounds delusional, if he really believes he could become a boxing legend through a superficial string of fights against well-known but very flawed boxers.

“That is on the table for me, to become the face of boxing. I have all the attributes for it. But again, if you’re not on point and if you don’t stay in tune, things can be lost real quick. So, for me, I’ve got to just have tunnel vision, kick ass, and let’s see where we’re at”

Even a victory over the very well-known Conor Benn wouldn’t necessarily make Ryan Garcia the face of the sport. Conor Benn has most recently fought at 147 pounds and apparently had to push his body a bit to make weight for that fight. Unfortunately, defeating him wouldn’t necessarily prove much right now either. The real path for Ryan Garcia would likely be the 154-pound weight class. There, he’d have to beat the best opponents and possibly do the same again at 160 pounds. That would mean he’d have to take risks, which he might not be comfortable doing. But it’s important that he takes those risks if he’s truly pursuing the goal of becoming the greatest in boxing. He already has the fame; now he just has to prove it once more in the ring.

Personally, I really like Ryan Garcia. But I also understand the criticism he’s getting. I’d also like to see him take bigger risks so he can really prove himself again. That’s exactly what I still feel is missing a little bit with him.
