The WBC welterweight title fight could be officially announced later today, with only a few final details still needing to be resolved.

The WBC welterweight title fight between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn could be officially confirmed in the next few hours, as soon as the final details are settled.

News writer Dan Rafael reported on Friday that the fight is expected to be announced today at the weigh-in in Las Vegas. According to him, that’s also where the fight will ultimately take place on September 12. However, Rafael added that the announcement will, of course, only go ahead if the remaining points of discussion are resolved.

Ryan Garcia has teased a September 12 fight several times recently, but there had been no official announcement from the promoters until now. This may have taken a little longer because organizing the event was apparently more difficult than expected. Since Ryan Garcia is under contract with Golden Boy and Conor Benn has often been linked to Zuffa Boxing in the past, there were likely some complications there.

However, if the fight is officially confirmed, two of boxing’s biggest names will face off. Since Ryan Garcia won the WBC welterweight title just earlier this year, it would be his first title defense. For Conor Benn, on the other hand, it would be by far the biggest fight since he returned to boxing.
