Song Yadong demands UFC title shot after huge KO

UFC bantamweight contender Song Yadong is now calling for a bantamweight title shot following his very surprising victory over Umar Nurmagomedov.

Although Song Yadong went into the fight as a clear underdog, he proved he can definitely compete at the top level by knocking out his opponent. A win would likely have made Umar Nurmagomedov a relatively safe title contender, but now the tables have turned. Song Yadong now wants a shot at the title. After the event, he spoke with UFC News and said he absolutely wants this title fight. He also announced that he would knock out any champion.

“I think the UFC should give me the title shot. I feel like I can finish everyone. I can finish Petr, I can finish Merab. So, even the Sean fight was very close. If we rematch, I can finish him, too”

he said.

After defeating Umar Nurmagomedov like that, a title fight isn’t all that far off. It does, however, depend a bit on what happens in the bout between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili, since that fight will likely determine whether Song Yadong actually gets a shot. That’s because Sean O'Malley is actually the next in line, but he’s already lost twice to Merab Dvalishvili, so the UFC wouldn’t schedule another fight between them. That could mean Song Yadong might actually get a shot.

I think the young guy is brimming with confidence right now. Sure, he might have a shot at the title, but in my opinion, he’s still overdoing it. I’d really love to see him in another fight like this and see how long he can keep up that level of performance. What do you think?
