Teofimo Lopez explains why he chose DAZN

Teofimo Lopez reveals why DAZN was a better fit than Zuffa Boxing.

Teofimo Lopez explained why, before his move to the welterweight division, he opted for a direct contract with DAZN instead of signing with Zuffa Boxing. On August 22, he will face Rolando Romero in what will be Teofimo Lopez’s first fight in the welterweight division and also his first fight under DAZN.

In an interview with The Ariel Helwani Show, he explained that his vision was a better fit for DAZN. They apparently offered a better contract, as well as a plan for the future that made sense to Teofimo Lopez.

In addition, all the commotion currently surrounding Zuffa seems to be becoming too much for him.

“A lot of things didn’t play out the way I wanted to see it, how I envisioned it. And then, you know, the things that occurred with Zuffa with the sanctioning bodies, hearing those things, it’s just a lot of scuffles”

he said.

Teofimo Lopez is determined to become the welterweight world champion. DAZN seems eager to help him achieve that, as they’re handling everything—including matters related to his personal rights.

“And the NILs are a main key factor there, you know, the NILs, the ownership, the fight rights, all those things are a huge key factor once you become that one of the biggest, one of the big stars and one of the big names in the sport of boxing”

said Teofimo Lopez.

So it seems the contract isn't personal. It's simply a matter of DAZN meeting all of his expectations, so he doesn't have to worry, even as he continues to grow.

In my opinion, based on his explanation, it’s a very plausible reason for why he chose DAZN. Maybe they also offered him more money, but ultimately, it should really be about his own vision and how it’s put into practice.
