The reason Shakur Stevenson vs Devin Haney fell apart
J Prince blames Bill Haney for the failed negotiations as both stars look toward different opponents.

As is well known, the fight between Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney will not take place for the time being. Negotiations have once again fallen through, and both stars will likely have to find someone else to face next. Devin Haney may face Liam Paro in a unification bout later this year, while Shakur Stevenson is expected to return in early 2027. Shakur Stevenson’s manager, J Prince, explained in an interview that Devin Haney’s father and his own manager are likely to blame for the failed negotiations.
“I think Devin wanted to fight. I think Bill didn't want to fight, and I think they figured out a way to sabotage the fight. It's interesting how you hear all the differences and opinions that people have on what happened. The reality of it is exactly what I just said”
he said.
The biggest points of contention were likely the weight limit and the rehydration clause. Devin Haney strongly insisted on fighting without such a clause, while Shakur Stevenson had demanded one and also wanted to fight at 145 pounds. According to Prince, both sides had already agreed on 145 pounds without a clause, and both were reportedly already training for the bout. Shortly before the negotiations were set to conclude, the weight was suddenly raised to 147 pounds, and the fight fell through. Prince concluded from this that Bill Haney probably never wanted the fight in the first place and therefore sought a way to prevent it at the last minute. However, these are just speculations from both sides; the real reasons remain unclear. What do you think?
