Tszyu keeps targeting faded stars instead of top contenders

Tim Tszyu is chasing names from the past

Tim Tszyu has printed an interesting “hit list” on a T-shirt and crosses off every fighter he has defeated. However, this list consists of fighters who actually come from a different era than he does. After defeating the long-inactive Errol Spence Jr., he crossed his name off the list and revealed Jermall Charlo as his next target. Below that are two other interesting names: Terence Crawford and Saul Alvarez. These, however, are pure wishful thinking. Terence Crawford has since retired, while Saul Alvarez fights in a different weight class where he has significantly better opportunities. Unfortunately, Tim Tszyu’s career has long been reduced to stunts like this. After Sebastian Fundora took the title from him in 2024, and Tim Tszyu dismissed the loss with what amounted to an excuse, he had only one more serious fight, which he also lost, before turning his attention to fighters who had been inactive for a long time or had already retired once. Errol Spence Jr., for example, hasn’t fought in nearly three years. The sad thing is that Tim Tszyu, at 31 years old, still had what it takes to take on big names like Yoenli Hernandez or Denzel Bentley. He could definitely reestablish himself as a serious middleweight contender if he only wanted to. Instead, he’s picking out names that have almost faded from the spotlight and really only offer financial benefits. But with his popularity in Australia, he definitely has what it takes to quickly organize a big fight. It would be a real shame if he threw away these opportunities just because he had to give up his title relatively early.

Personally, I don’t think he’ll try to take on the big names again. I think the fight against Errol Spence Jr. simply generated too much revenue compared to the others. But I’d be happy if he decided to take on the big names again.
