Turki Alalshikh’s crazy idea: Makhachev vs McGregor

Islam Makhachev came to Conor McGregor’s defense in a surprisingly strong way after his fight, as he also believes that Conor McGregor must have gone into the fight with Max Holloway already suffering from an existing injury, and that he didn’t sustain the injury during the fight. Many suspect that he only stepped into the fight to avoid canceling at the last minute again and looking like someone who just doesn’t want to fight.

Islam Makhachev actually shares this view. He thinks the injury must have happened beforehand, possibly during training camp. He also explained how that could have happened.

“When you’re not training for a long time, I even notice it in myself or other athletes, when you stop training and you want to come back to training again but you’ve been resting all this time, you start training again and your body just can’t handle it. You get injured or you get sick. That’s what I think happened with him”

he said.

And now things are getting really interesting. Despite Conor McGregor's disappointing comeback, Islam Makhachev can imagine a fight between the two, though not in MMA.

“A fight is still possible, I have a new story to tell regarding McGregor. I went to a boxing event and I was with Turki Alalshikh. He called Conor. He asked Conor if he wants to box with me. Yes, that, I am down. I told him to ask Dana White who was near us. He laughed about it. We couldn’t really talk. He started showing … body language”

said Islam Makhachev.

He had already mentioned that Turki Alalshikh had tried to lure him into boxing for a fight, and that could actually become a reality now. Conor McGregor has only one fight left on his UFC contract, and doesn’t seem to have much left to prove in the Octagon. For many, a boxing match would be the only real way to ensure a fair fight.

Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven was already a crazy matchup, what if two UFC legends suddenly faced off in a boxing match? Maybe that’s actually something boxing promoters are considering right now.

Personally, I’m already surprised just by the possibility of such an event. If that really happens, anything can happen in combat sports. I don’t know if I’d think the event was good or bad, but it would definitely be interesting. What do you think?
