Uros Medic wants Islam Makhachev to retire

The UFC welterweight believes the champion has nothing left to prove after dominating the division.

Uros Medic seems to have had enough of Islam Makhachev's dominance.

He stated that he’s seen enough and is tired of watching Islam Makhachev win over and over again. While Uros Medic considers him the best fighter in the division, he believes the reigning champion has nothing left to prove. Instead, he suggested that the champion should end his career now if he’s really thinking about retiring.

“I’m a little tired of watching Islam Makhachev winning at the top. I’m like, come on, go rest, go relax. You’re the best, bro. I’m not afraid to say he is the best in the division right now. He is the champion. There’s no doubt about it. But if you’re talking or considering retirement, bro, get out. You’ve already accomplished everything. Go do your thing, bro. Go be a businessman, go be a politician; he can do everything. He is a smart fellow”

he said in the Believe You Me podcast.

And in a way, he’s right. Islam Makhachev’s only professional loss came in 2015, and he’s won every fight since then. Every contender labeled as dangerous ends up the same way, with a loss on the ground. The best example is probably Ian Machado Garry, since there aren’t many fighters like him. He has an unusual height, which is why he was labeled so dangerous and treated as if he were the one who could finally knock the champion off his throne. Instead, it was yet another victory for Islam Makhachev. It’s similar with the next contenders, as people often say they have the potential to defeat Islam Makhachev, and in a way, that’s true. Since the potential is definitely there, the only question is how realistic a victory over the champion really is. Somehow, he always manages to come out on top, and no one really knows how. Do you think anyone else will manage to knock him off the throne before he ends his career?

I’m a little skeptical about that. I’m one of those who really thought Ian Machado Garry would come out on top in their bout. After this latest win for the champion, I don’t think anyone will be able to beat him anytime soon. What do you think?
