Usman Nurmagomedov becomes MMA's top free agent

Just one day after it was announced that Jake Paul’s promotion would be partnering with the PFL, the next event from them was already taking place.

Usman Nurmagomedov headlined the evening and capped it off in style with a spectacular first-round knockout against the previously undefeated Archie Colgan. Usman Nurmagomedov first sent his opponent to the mat with a head kick, then landed several uppercuts after Archie Colgan got back to his feet. However, Archie Colgan couldn’t handle those uppercuts and went straight back down to the mat. The referee then stopped the fight at 3:42 of the first round.

From the start, Usman Nurmagomedov dominated the fight. He continuously landed kicks and punches, while Archie Colgan desperately tried to close the distance. Although the fight didn’t last very long, it was a dominant performance by that point.

After the victory, Usman Nurmagomedov also attributed his success in large part to his collaboration with Islam Makhachev.

"Discipline And hard sparring with the double UFC champion, the legend Islam Makhachev. That's how you can improve"

he said.

After the fight, he spoke a little more about his future. It was his last fight under his PFL contract, and he is now probably the biggest free agent out there. Usman Nurmagomedov said himself:

"MVP, they always trash talk a little bit about Dana -- he doesn't pay, now, we're going to see how they want to pay"

However, Usman Nurmagomedov is not expected to receive just one offer. It will likely turn out that he’ll receive several and choose the best one. He put on a strong performance yesterday and is naturally attracting a fair amount of attention. It remains to be seen which promotion he’ll ultimately choose.

I think Usman Nurmagomedov has put himself in the perfect negotiating position with yesterday's victory. He's undefeated and one of the best lightweights in the world, if not the best. Competition within the promotion is fierce, and I think he's going to land a really crazy contract.
