Usyk vs Verhoeven Rematch?
Rico Verhoeven pushes for a return bout after pushing Oleksandr Usyk to the limit in their controversial 11-round clash

Rico Verhoeven is calling for an immediate rematch against the undefeated heavyweight boxing world champion Oleksandr Usyk. Rico Verhoeven, who typically comes from a kickboxing background, fought his second professional bout just last month—against Oleksandr Usyk, of all people. Surprisingly, however, he kept the fight very thrilling for 11 rounds until it ended in a controversial stoppage that resulted in a victory for Oleksandr Usyk. That’s why Rico Verhoeven is now calling for a rematch to get another chance to close this chapter.
"This has never been about taking anything away from Oleksandr. He's one of the greatest fighters of this generation and I have nothing but respect for what he's achieved. What stays with me is the feeling that, after 11 unforgettable rounds on one of the biggest and most epic stages in the world, the story simply stopped before it reached its ending"
he said, which is, of course, very respectful.
Critics say, however, that it would do Rico Verhoeven more harm than good. Oleksandr Usyk seems to be even more dominant in the rematch, as he remembers everything from the first fight and thus adjusts his tactics to his opponent. In addition, Oleksandr Usyk has other commitments; for example, he has to defend his titles against Agit Kabayel. So it remains to be seen whether a rematch will actually happen, since it wouldn’t really make sense for either of them. Nevertheless, Rico Verhoeven’s view is understandable, especially since he’s so respectful.
In my opinion, as I mentioned before, a rematch doesn't make much sense for either of them. There's no question that Rico Verhoeven put up an incredibly good fight, but his performance in rematches speaks for itself. On top of that, it would hardly be worth it for Oleksandr Usyk. That's why I'm actually hoping a rematch doesn't happen, even though it would be very interesting.
