Vergil Ortiz Jr. must stop waiting and get back in the ring

Vergil Ortiz Jr. claims that no one is willing to fight him, but that’s not the real reason for his long inactivity. His protracted contract dispute with Golden Boy Promotions left him without a fight for several months, and the light middleweight division continued to evolve without him.

Instead of complaining that other fighters don’t want to sign contracts, Vergil Ortiz Jr. should work with Golden Boy to find a credible opponent as soon as possible.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. hasn’t fought since last November. His last victory, however, put him in a very good position for the big fight against Jaron Ennis. But the dispute with Golden Boy ended up in court, which stalled negotiations.

“We want anyone that’s willing to fight. We’re just having problems getting fights right now. No one wants to fight, if I’m being honest, But what can I do? I can’t force them to sign the contract”

he told YSM Sports Media.

The problem with that is that the argument isn’t really sound. He himself was inactive for most of those years, and without the legal dispute, he probably would have fought again in the meantime. However, the possibility of a fight with Jaron Ennis is likely no longer on the table. After his victory over Xander Zayas, his priorities shifted, and he’s now setting his sights on something bigger. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for Vergil Ortiz Jr. to wait for him, and he should look for someone else instead. One option would be Yoenli Hernandez. He would certainly seize the opportunity, and it would be a good chance for Vergil Ortiz Jr. to get back on track.

“I’m definitely open to anything for sure. I wouldn’t be opposed to it at all”

he said.

So there’s no reason to remain inactive any longer; now it’s time to get back in the ring. He doesn’t need big names just yet—Golden Boy just has to find an opponent who’s credible and willing to face him.

What he definitely shouldn’t do is wait for the perfect opponent.

A very complicated situation for Vergil Ortiz Jr.. He should have just handled things better and not blamed everything on the other fighters. If he says he’s ready for anything, then it really shouldn’t take that long.
